Mark Read was born in Johannesburg in 1957. He graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor's degree of science in Zoology and Archaeology in 1979. Mark was employed by Christies Auctioneers, London in 1980 before joining the Everard Read Gallery which is South Africa's premier dealers in Fine Art. He is currently Chairman of the Everard Read Group of Galleries which operate in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Franschoek and London. Mark has dedicated his life to nature conservation projects in South Africa. Since the mid 1990's, Mark has served on the Board of WWF (SA). He was Chairperson of the Board for 9 years and served at that time on the WWF International Board. Mark is married to Christine and has two daughters, Lucy and Frances.
